Finding a way out of the struggle of feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or pain can be difficult. Current and past traumas can impact your ability to feel peace of mind, and to live life as you want it to be. For others, attempts to reign in your out of control sexual behavior may feel hopeless. And if you are the partner of someone struggling with sexual addiction, the pain, confusion and anger can create internal chaos and feel unbearable.
As a licensed professional counselor, I have the training and experience to help you find resolution to these needs.
I will help you get to the deeper sources of your challenges and places of pain. I will work with you to help you connect to your internal world and implement new behavior patterns as you connect to your authentic self. I will help you find success in your relationships with loved ones and friends. As a certified sex addiction therapist, I am trained in meeting the needs of those dealing with compulsivity in their sexual behaviors, as well as their partners who experience trauma and hurt from the pain of betrayal. Therapy is best affected in the context of a relationship providing a compassionate anchor that allows you to feel safe in the process. I provide a therapeutic environment that sees the relationship between therapist and client as vital. Out of this comes the opportunity for renewed hope and strength for the challenges encountered, better relationships, and joy in the act of living.
I love working with people as they journey toward health and healing. After experiencing profound healing in my own life, and knowing the invaluable rewards of effective, caring therapy, I felt a calling to make a major change in mid-life. I realized I had a passion toward this work and moved across the country to attend the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology to earn my Master of Counseling Psychology. There I enjoyed grappling with the intersection of my deeply held faith and the realities of brain, body, and heart that affect our ability to be successful in relationships and life. Since then, I have found enormous satisfaction and meaning as I have seen the lives of my clients be impacted and changed as I walked with them through their healing journeys.
I work in a psychodynamic frame, with a composite of other modalities in the work. I am trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and find that trauma is usually best met when addressed from a “bottom-up” approach, using our senses and physical responses as a portal to the underlying areas that need to be addressed. I focus on issues related to codependence, boundaries, and the effects of childhood trauma on emotional development as significant areas of importance. I also work with couples using my training in Emotionally Focused Therapy. The focus on attachment needs and how they impact our sense of safety in the relationship is vital to feeling connected.
If you would like to start to work on your areas of need, please contact me. I am looking forward to being with you, as you start your own healing journey.
